How can I move my investment to my brokerage account?
Transferring Units to a HIN
If you apply for units in an Intelligent Investor fund without a Holder Identification Number (HIN) or fail to provide one, your units will be sent to the share registry. These units will be issued under a Security Reference Number (SRN) as an Issuer Sponsored investment.
You can transfer your holdings to a HIN later by following these steps:
Contact your share broker to initiate an 'Issuer Sponsored Transfer' to move your ETF units from the share registry to your share trading account. Most online share trading brokers allow this to be done online.
Provide your share broker with the Security Reference Number (SRN), which starts with the letter 'I' for India. Remember, you may have multiple SRNs for each II ETF you hold.
Your share broker will complete the transfer, involving only you, your broker, and the share registry, without needing Intelligent Investor or InvestSMART's involvement.
Transferring ETF Units from the Share Registry
If you don't have a share broker and your ETF units are held with the share registry (Link Market Services), follow these steps:
Open an account with a share broker, such as CommSec or Nabtrade. The ASX also has information on finding a share broker here.
Request the share broker to initiate an 'Issuer Sponsored Transfer' to move your ETF units from the share registry to your share trading account.
You can then see or even sell your units directly on the ASX.
To access your holding information, please refer to the share registry. Note that your broker will usually require the SRN holding details to match the details of the HIN account. If you need to amend or change the name the holding is under, you may have to contact Link Market Services to update your details.
See Who is the share registry/What is a share registry? to find out how to access your holding.
